China-bound UAE plane detained

KOLKATA: Indian authorities have detained a UAE airforce plane that landed in Kolkata on its way to China after discovering arms and explosives on board, officials said yesterday.
The military transport plane was given permission to land in Kolkata on Sunday to refuel on its way to Hanyang, part of the city of Wuhan in China's Hubei province, from Abu Dhabi, but did not declare its cargo.
"We were shocked to discover arms and explosives in the plane during a routine check," said Jayanti Ghosh, from the Industrial Security Force command which is in charge of airport security.
He said the pilot and eight crew members were being interrogated about the arms

Mango chutney

Ingredients:
2 tbsp canola oil, 1 tsp. mustard seeds, 2 cups mango cubed ripe, 1/2 cup golden raisins, 6 dried red chiles stemmed, or to taste, 1/4 cup brown sugar, dark, 1 cup water, 1/4 tsp salt 1/4 cup cilantro freshly finely chopped
Method:
Heat oil in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Add mustard seeds, cover, and cook until the seeds have stopped popping, 20 to 30 seconds. Add mango, raisins and chiles to taste. Reduce the heat to medium and cook, uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the raisins are plump and the fruit is lightly browned, 5 to 8 minutes. Add sugar and cook, stirring, until it dissolves, about 2 minutes. Add water and salt. Cook, uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the sauce is syrupy-thick, 10 to 15 minutes. Stir in cilantro and serve warm.

Eye make-up

Eye-liner: If you have Asian eyes, apply light eye shadows on your eyelids. Use a pencil to make a thick smoky line along upper eyelashes (the line should be thick enough to be seen well when your eyes are open). Under the lower eyelashes draw a thinner line.
Eye-shadow: Don’t attempt to draw a line above your natural crease with a dark color. Instead, try to create the illusion of eyelids by applying bright shimmery eye shadow on and above the crease. It should occupy about one third of the space between your lashes and your eyebrows. In order to make your eyes visually wider apply brown eye shadow on your eyebrows.
Mascara: Cover your eyelashes with two or three layers of dense mascara.

Bread can be used as contraceptives

Some women believe bread, cling film and chicken skin can be used as contraceptive, a poll by a healthcare giant has revealed

The survey of 1,000 women aged 18 to 50 unearthed a number of misconceptions about family planning.
One in five detailed bizarre methods of contraception including eating garlic or using bread, plastic wrap or chicken skin as a barrier method.
The poll, carried out by Opinion Health for drug manufacturer Bayer Schering Pharma, also found a number of misunderstandings about the contraceptive pill.
Half of those surveyed wrongly thought that taking the pill long term could cause infertility, and 10% said that it would always take a number of years to regain fertility after coming off the medication.
More than a third thought that the greatest risk of getting pregnant while taking the combined contraceptive pill occurred in the middle of a pack, when in fact it is at the beginning and end.
The combined pill contains oestrogen and progestogen.
Dr Annie Evans, Women's Health Specialist at the Bristol Sexual Health Centre, said: "It is not surprising that this survey has uncovered how widespread contraceptive myths still are in this country, given that Britain continues to have the highest unintended pregnancy rate in Europe, with as many as 50% of births being unintended.
"It is vital that women are made aware of the facts, using the credible sources of information available to them."
