‘Pay power bills or face law’

KUWAIT CITY : Assistant Undersecretary for Consumer Affairs at the Ministry of Electricity and Water Engineer Jassem Al-Lenqawi says the ministry has decided to take legal actions against defaulting consumers after several means to collect outstanding power bills have proved futile, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
Engineer Al-Lenqawi urges the consumers concerned to quickly pay their outstanding power bills to avoid the wrath of law. He said the ministry has already issued several warning letters without attaining adequate response. He stressed it’s about to implement legal action.
He stated that he is ready to personally cooperate with consumers who find it difficult to pay their debts once, such that he would device a means to ease the payment. “The ministry has commenced the procedure, which will affect citizens and expatriates alike,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, Engineer Al-Lenqawi Monday paid an inspection visit to Jleb Al-Shoyoukh and Hasawi where he discovered that some property owners tapped electricity connection to houses they rent out to bachelors without meters. He stated that the connections were badly done and it is dangerous to human lives within the premises, so he ordered for immediate disconnection. He also distributed last warning letters to certain defaulting residences. “We are more determined to collect all outstanding power bills and deliberate actions to avoid payment will meet stiff actions from the ministry,” the astute engineer warned.

No proof of Indian role in Pak terror: Holbrooke

Islamabad: Pakistan should focus on militancy within its borders instead of worrying about India's presence in Afghanistan as there is no evidence to suggest that New Delhi is backing the extremists, US Special Envoy Richard Holbrooke has said.
"Pakistan does not have to worry about India in Afghanistan. They need to worry about the miscreants in western Pakistan," Holbrooke said in an interview with Geo News channel at the US State Department in Washington.
"Now if the Indians were supporting those miscreants, that would be extraordinarily bad (and) really dangerous. But they're not. There is no evidence at all that the Indians are supporting the miscreants in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas or North West Frontier Province or Waziristan. None," he said.
Holbrooke was responding to a question on Pakistan's concerns about India's presence in Afghanistan. He noted that India has been playing a key role in the reconstruction of the war-ravaged country.
"India has given Afghanistan about $1 billion in assistance. They're rebuilding the parliament building, they've built a very useful road in the southwestern part of the country leading down towards Iran. They're training agricultural experts, they're giving scholarships. The Indians have published a pamphlet on what they're doing. I don't think that should be cause of concern for Pakistan."
