KUWAIT CITY : Assistant Undersecretary for Consumer Affairs at the Ministry of Electricity and Water Engineer Jassem Al-Lenqawi says the ministry has decided to take legal actions against defaulting consumers after several means to collect outstanding power bills have proved futile, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
Engineer Al-Lenqawi urges the consumers concerned to quickly pay their outstanding power bills to avoid the wrath of law. He said the ministry has already issued several warning letters without attaining adequate response. He stressed it’s about to implement legal action.
He stated that he is ready to personally cooperate with consumers who find it difficult to pay their debts once, such that he would device a means to ease the payment. “The ministry has commenced the procedure, which will affect citizens and expatriates alike,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, Engineer Al-Lenqawi Monday paid an inspection visit to Jleb Al-Shoyoukh and Hasawi where he discovered that some property owners tapped electricity connection to houses they rent out to bachelors without meters. He stated that the connections were badly done and it is dangerous to human lives within the premises, so he ordered for immediate disconnection. He also distributed last warning letters to certain defaulting residences. “We are more determined to collect all outstanding power bills and deliberate actions to avoid payment will meet stiff actions from the ministry,” the astute engineer warned.
