Kuwait to revamp public transport network

Kuwaiti Minister of Public Works and State Minister for Municipal Affairs Fadhil Safar has signed a contract for developing the country's public transport network at a cost of KD 1.6 million.
The signing ceremony was attended by Kuwait Municipality Director-General Ahmad al-Subeeh and several other municipal officials.
Emerging from the event, the minister told reporters that the project would take 15 months to complete, and include an integrated study and plan.
The idea of public transport and new cities is the practical way to end traffic congestion in Kuwait, he said.
He laid it bare that the Kuwait Municipality would sign three new contracts soon for developing the capital city.
The transport network development project provides for identifying public transport problems, developing means of transport, finding solutions to traffic problems until 2030 and inventing various alternatives, the minister added.
